Protected, Semi-Aniline, Purely Protected® Leather Care & Maintenance
Leather is a durable product, but not invincible. Understand that even most durable leather can be damaged with misuse. The three leather categories below are all maintained the same, and while they are considered easy to care for, routine cleaning is still required. Remember the longer a stain sits untreated, the harder it will be to clean. All leathers will have natural characteristics such as bug bites, small holes, scratches, healed scars, neck, and belly wrinkles. This is living proof that you own real leather!
Routine Care and Maintenance
Proper maintenance is key to the longevity of your leather furniture, which should be cleaned weekly or biweekly depending on the environment and traffic. Gently wipe the leather down with clean soft white cloth and use distilled water only. This will keep the leather surface clean, which prevents build up from dirt, dust, body oils or lotions. For dried food and stains blot the area with a soft white clean cloth until the stain is soaked and releases. Then, blot the wet area with dry soft wet cloth and allow to air dry. Do not place your furniture near a direct heat source to prevent drying out and altering of the leather. Pets may cause damage to leathers by scratching, body oils, and daily use. We recommend covering the area where a pet lays to protect from additional staining.
For furniture that has been sitting for an extended period or has not been previously cleaned, we recommend wiping down the entire piece with distilled water using an clean white cloth and even pressure. This promotes a uniform appearance and helps prevent noticeable differences between cleaned and unclean areas. If harsh pressure is applied to a certain area during cleaning, it may darken the area.
